Alex Huang – Country Manager for System Business at ASUS India
B&E: What are your plans for the tablet market in India? How much investment are you making for the same?
AH: We are currently assessing the market potential for tablet PCs in India and so it will be a little premature to comment on the investments to be made specifically for growing our share in the tablet market. However we are working on bringing the Tablet PC and the Eee Pad in India with the advanced Android 2.3 operating system (Gingerbread) by the first quarter of 2011. These devices will be equipped with a whole host of connectivity options such as 3G and WiMax apart from normal WiFi, Bluetooth et al and will be made available in 2 configurations. We are very enthusiastic about the feedback and support gathered on their debut in Computex 2010; and hence have a lot of hope on this new genre of mobile computing devices. Besides, we plan to spend as much as Rs.50 million in India by 2012 to ensure that our products and brand finds sufficient recognition among the masses in India.
B&E: Going forward how do you see the trend shaping up in the PC market?
AH: Quite unanimously, consumers are more demanding and have high expectations from brands and their products in terms of design and functionality. At ASUS, one of the main focus areas remains to anticipating future trends and listening to user demand, thereby developing efficient technologies for tomorrow. For example, ASUS invested in a lot of research and resources in developing the unique SonicMaster Technology that powers the astounding sound quality of the ASUS NX90 and the ASUS N53J Series of notebooks. This was done on the basis of the research findings that people spend more than one-third of their day interacting with multimedia devices and hence we developed the SonicMaster Technology - a new standard in notebook audio, offering the best ever sonic performance on a portable PC. Besides ASUS notebooks and netbooks like N53Jq and VX6 Eee PC are among the first in the world to be shipped with USB 3.0 ready technology which helps enhance the data transfer speeds and hence assures users the tools to manage large multimedia libraries and much more.
